It’s official! BIGBANG’s G-Dragon is soon making a comeback to the music scene with his full-length third studio album, Ubermensch. Known as the King of K-pop, the 36-year-old artist is set to release his first album in 11 years on February 25. The announcement sent his fans into a frenzy, excited to listen to their favourite idol’s music after years of waiting. Not only a full-length, G-Dragon is also set to embark on his long-awaited world tour named after his upcoming album.

Despite the excitement surrounding G-Dragon’s highly anticipated comeback, the singer-songwriter has sparked controversy following the announcement. The poster and title of his upcoming album have caught attention online, with many being unimpressed by the name Ubermensch and its lettering.

Coined by philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in 1883, Ubermensch means ‘superman’ or ‘overman’. Focusing on values and morality, the term is a philosophical concept which describes a person who has transcended the ordinary human condition. It is worth noting that Ubermensch was particularly used by the Nazis and Hitler to describe their belief in the existence of a biologically superior Aryan or a Germanic master race.

The name and the font immediately sparked a debate on Reddit, with many users even noting that the album title might be uncomfortable for G-Dragon’s fans in Europe, especially in Germany. In a Reddit post titled “G-DRAGON – ‘Ubermensch’ 2025 World Tour (Tour Announcement),” people have expressed their views on the same.

One user said, “Ubermensch is probably not the best name for international appeal, but go G-Dragon.”

“I understand that übermensch was not a term coined by Nazis, but it was one used by them extensively…and when combined with that font… it’s giving SS kinda vibes,” read a comment.

Another user mentioned, “I think everybody can at least agree that the presentation is questionable.”

Someone else wrote, “This is insane. Calling it übermensch is one thing, I guess, but the font? It’s so close to the nazi font it’s making me uncomfortable.”

“Did nobody consider that “Übermensch” was used by the Nazi party to describe the “Aryan race” and is still used to this day by neo nazis? The font and colour scheme also make it look very nazi-esque. Not claiming that GD is affiliated with nazis, but it’s in very poor taste, especially for a world tour. I doubt that Germans will be stoked about this,” a commentator stated.

G-Dragon, aka Kwon Ji Yong’s, new album will feature his pre-released hits Power and Home Sweet Home, along with other tracks.
