Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has requested farmers to refrain from using single-phase pump sets in irrigation feeders during night hours to prevent power disruptions.

“The Karnataka government currently ensures a three-phase power supply for agricultural pump sets for four hours during the day and three hours at night. Additionally, under the Nirantara Jyothi scheme, rural households receive an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply,”a BESCOM official stated.

To support students residing in farmhouses and cater to household needs, single-phase power is supplied through irrigation feeders from 6 PM to 6 AM. “However, some farmers have been using single-phase pump sets during this period, causing feeder tripping and interruptions in the power supply,” official added.

Considering the impact on rural consumers and students, BESCOM has urged farmers to use the allocated three-phase supply for irrigation and avoid running pump sets during the designated single-phase hours at night.
