Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Tuesday openly criticised actor Mamata Kulkarni’s anointment as the Mahamandleshwar of Kinnar Akhara during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, saying that nobody can attain sainthood “in a single day.”

Mamta Kulkarni, a renowned Bollywood actress, embarked on her spiritual journey by renouncing her worldly life and embracing a new identity as “Shri Yamai Mamta Nandgiri.”

“The great Kumbh festival of Sanatana, where our roots are connected, is a grand celebration. This is a sacred festival Some people associate vulgarity, intoxication, and inappropriate behaviour in the name of Kumbh – this is not the true essence of the Maha Kumbh,” Baba Ramdev was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“Some individuals, who were indulged in worldly pleasures just yesterday, suddenly become saints or even attain titles like Mahamandaleshwar in a single day,” the yoga guru added.

Since Kulkarni’s appointment as the Mahamandleshwar, several saints have opposed the decision, highlighting that attaining such a revered position requires years of spiritual discipline and dedication.

Mamta Kulkarni Embraces Spirituality

During the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, on January 24, Kulkarni assumed her new identity as Mahamandleshwar. It came after she took ‘sanyas’ in the Kinnar Akhara.

Kinnar Akhara’s Mahamandaleshwar Kaushalya Nand Giri, alias Tina Maa, told PTI that Kulkarni performed her own ‘Pind Daan’ on the banks of the River Ganga on Friday.

Reflecting on her new journey, Kulkarni said, “I started my penance (‘tapasya’) in 2000. And I chose Laxmi Narayan Tripathi as my ‘pattaguru’ because today is Friday… it is the day of Maha Kaali (Goddess Kaali). Yesterday, preparations were on to make me a mahamandaleshwar. But today Maa Shakti instructed me that I choose Laxmi Narayan Tripathi because that person is a ‘saakshaat’ (direct) form of Ardhnaareshwar. What else can be a bigger title than an Ardhnaareshwar doing my ‘pattabhishek’.”

In the 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni rose to fame with blockbuster films like ‘Karan Arjun’ and ‘Baazi.’ In the early 2000s, she stepped away from the film industry and relocated abroad, choosing to live a life away from the spotlight.
