In an unfortunate news, Basil Joseph’s much-anticipated Malayalam movie Ponman fell victim to piracy just hours after its release. Despite strict security measures, the film surfaced on shady corners of the internet. The film hit the big screens today, January 30, 2025. Now, the Jothish Shankar directorial has been leaked online on several pirated websites within hours of its release.
Ponman in available for easy download on illegal websites for free on phones and desktops. The full movie is also put up online for free on platforms like Reddit and 123Movies.
The movie, which had already started getting positive buzz, now faces a tough battle at the box office. However, it is important that you support the film by catching it on the big screen instead of turning to pirated versions.
Lately, several South Indian films have been illegally leaked online on these platforms including Dominic And The Ladies’ Purse, Pravinkoodu Shappu, Sankranthiki Vasthunam, Game Changer, Daaku Maharaaj, Pushpa 2, Rekhachithram, and many others.
In fact, Game Changer was aired illegally on a local TV channel which made the makers take immediate action against. The miscreant was arrested by the police.
The matter was raised by the producer of the film as he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “This is unacceptable. A film that was released just 4-5 days ago being telecasted on local cable channels & buses raises serious concerns. Cinema is not just about the Hero, director or producers; it’s the result of 3-4 years of hard work, dedication and the dreams of thousands of people.”
Coming back to Ponman, the film revolves around a gold dealer named Ajesh who lends precious sovereigns for a village wedding. However, he finds himself in danger when the bride’s criminal husband schemes to keep the gold and silence him forever. Directed by Jotish Shankar, the film also stars Sajin Gopu and Lijo Mol Jose alongside Basil Joseph.
