The district administration is taking steps to ensure that food business operators comply with food safety standards in connection with this year’s Attukal Pongala festival in March.

Hotels and restaurants are required to display a copy of their food safety licence/registration. Hotel staff should produce their medical fitness certificates during inspections, the district administration said on Friday.

Meeting held

Food safety measures were reviewed at a meeting convened by the Thiruvananthapuram Subcollector here on Friday.

The Food Safety department is organising an awareness workshop for food vendors and cooks at the Bhakshya Suraksha Bhavan, Thycaud, on March 1 ahead of the festival. Individuals and groups intending to provide ‘Annadanam’ during the festival days should attend this workshop which will begin at 10.30 a.m., the department said. People who want to attend the session should register in advance by emailing their name, address, and phone number to fsonemomcircle@gmail.com.

Institutions, organisations, and individuals who are planning to distribute food, snacks, and water should register with the Food Safety department in advance. They can do so through Akshaya centres, the district administration said in a statement.
