Guwahati, Feb 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati on Tuesday, stating that Assam’s economy has doubled to ₹6 lakh crore under BJP governance. He credited this growth to the “double-engine” government and highlighted Assam’s increasing role in India’s economic progress.
Modi emphasized that Eastern India and the Northeast are entering a new phase of development, with Advantage Assam serving as a key initiative to connect the state’s potential with global opportunities. He noted that historically, Eastern India has played a crucial role in the country’s prosperity, and now, the Northeast is poised to contribute significantly to India’s growth.
The Prime Minister outlined India’s efforts to strengthen its local supply chain, expand free trade agreements, and enhance global connectivity through projects like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. He stated that despite global uncertainties, experts remain optimistic about India’s rapid economic expansion, citing a skilled workforce, a growing middle class, and policy stability.
Highlighting Assam’s economic progress, Modi recalled that in 2018, when the first edition of Advantage Assam was launched, the state’s economy was valued at ₹2.75 lakh crore. Over the past six years, it has grown to ₹6 lakh crore, reflecting significant investments in infrastructure, industry, and innovation.
He also noted a fivefold increase in Assam’s railway budget, which rose from an average of ₹2,100 crore (2009-2014) to ₹10,000 crore under the current administration. The government has set an ambitious target of achieving a Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of $143 billion by 2030, reinforcing Assam’s role as a major economic hub.
To accelerate industrialization, Modi announced the launch of the North-East Industrialization Transformation Plan, ‘Unnati.’ He also highlighted Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry, describing it as a symbol of the state’s economic strength and global recognition.
The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit aims to attract investments and further boost the state’s industrial and infrastructure development, positioning Assam as a key gateway to Southeast Asia.
