Veteran Assamese actress Jnanada Kakati, a prominent figure in the region’s film industry, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 90 at Bethany Hospital in Shillong.
Born in 1932, Kakati made her film debut with Parghat and went on to feature in several landmark Assamese films, including Piyoli Phukan, Sarapaat, Lakhimi, and Ronga Police. Her remarkable contribution to the growth of Assamese cinema was recognized with the Bishnu Rabha Award in 2002.
Kakati leaves behind a lasting legacy in Assamese cinema, having inspired generations of actors and filmmakers throughout her illustrious career.
