Assam Police Seizes Narcotics Worth Rs 1 Crore In Cachar District, One Arrested

Guwahati, Jan 20: Assam Police in Cachar district seized a large quantity of narcotics worth Rs 1 crore and arrested one person in a significant operation on Sunday. The operation, conducted at the Digharkhal Toll Gate under Kalain police station, was based on intelligence inputs regarding illegal drug transportation.

Police intercepted a vehicle (registration number MZ-01Z-8256) traveling from Guwahati to Aizawl and, during a search, recovered 72 cartons containing 8,640 bottles of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup and 2 kg of suspected ganja. The total value of the seized drugs in the black market is estimated at Rs 1 crore.

The arrested individual, Joylaldan Thanga (38), a resident of Aizawl district, was taken into custody in connection with the drug haul.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the operation, praising the Cachar Police’s successful efforts. He shared the news on social media, highlighting the interception and seizure of the narcotics.

This operation adds to a series of recent drug busts in the region, including a December seizure of 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin by the Special Task Force (STF) and Cachar police.

Further investigations are underway.
