Assam Police Seize 8,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 2 Crore In South Salmara Mankachar, Two Arrested

Guwahati, Mar 24: Assam Police seized 8,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore and arrested two individuals during an anti-narcotics operation near the Indo-Bangladesh border on Sunday night.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team from South Salmara Mankachar district raided a location in Shotimari-II under Mankachar police station. Officials said the consignment, smuggled from a neighbouring state, was intended for trafficking into Bangladesh by throwing it over the border fence.

The tablets were found hidden in a pile of betel nut sacks inside a house. The arrested individuals, identified as Sakuwat Hussain and Sanowar Hussain, are suspected to have been involved in drug peddling for several years.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for the operation, highlighting the state’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking.

Further investigations are underway to identify others linked to the smuggling network.
