Assam Police Seize 66,000 Yaba Tablets Worth Rs 20 Crore In Cachar District

Guwahati, Mar 26: Assam Police seized a massive haul of 66,000 Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 20 crore, during a special operation in Cachar district on Tuesday. The operation, based on reliable intelligence, targeted illegal drug trafficking along the Assam-Mizoram border.

According to Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police for Cachar, a police team raided the residence of Md Dil Bahar, aged 36, in Raj Gobindpur, Baga, under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station. The tablets were found concealed in the false ceiling of the house. The narcotics were seized following legal procedures in the presence of independent witnesses.

The Yaba tablets tested positive for a psychotropic substance and are suspected to have been transported from a neighboring state. Further legal action is being taken as part of the investigation.

This operation follows another significant drug bust in South Salmara Mankachar district, where 8,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore were seized on Sunday. The drugs were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, and two individuals were arrested.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the police for their efforts, emphasizing the state’s commitment to curbing drug smuggling and trafficking networks.
