Assam Poised To Become India’s Economic Powerhouse, Says CM At Japan Summit

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared that the state is on track to become India’s next economic powerhouse. Addressing the second edition of the Advantage Assam business summit in Japan, Sarma outlined his vision for the state’s economic growth, targeting a gross state domestic product (GSDP) of USD 143 billion by 2030.

 

During his visit, CM Sarma met with over 80 business leaders and highlighted Assam’s record-breaking achievement of securing USD 4 billion in private investments in 2024, the highest in the state’s history. He also discussed the state’s ambitious USD 12 billion infrastructure investment plan, offering significant opportunities for global companies.

 

The Chief Minister expressed excitement over Japan’s growing interest in investing in Assam and invited Osaka’s business community to join the Advantage Assam summit. Sarma also noted the strong admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in Japan.

In addition to his business interactions, Sarma held discussions with Japanese officials, including Fukushiro Nukaga, Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, on areas such as sports tourism development. The Chief Minister’s ongoing visit aims to strengthen economic ties between Assam and Japan, fostering further investments in the state.
