SILCHAR: In a historic step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure in Assam’s Barak Valley, Kaushik Rai, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Barak Valley Development, and Urban Development, laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed district hospital in Lakhipur. The event commenced with a traditional bhoomi puja, symbolizing the start of a transformative healthcare project for the region.
During his address, Minister Rai underscored the Assam government’s allocation of Rs 107.44 crore for this state-of-the-art facility, which will be housed in an eight-story structure. Scheduled for completion by August 29, 2026, the hospital will provide advanced medical services to both rural and urban population of the Cachar district. The project also includes residential quarters for doctors and nurses, ensuring round-the-clock healthcare services.
“With immense pride, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare in Assam. This 100-bed hospital will not only serve the people of Lakhipur but also the greater Cachar district, revolutionizing access to quality healthcare,” said Minister Rai.
He further highlighted other upcoming initiatives for Lakhipur, including a GNM and ANM training school, a new jail at Labok, and a bridge over the Barak River connecting Singerband and Tulengram, all aimed at fostering comprehensive regional development.
Earlier, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav emphasized the significance of the hospital in bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility. BJP District President Bimalendu Roy and Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Ashutosh Barman lauded the project’s focus on community welfare.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Assistant Commissioner Lakshyajeet Gogoi, Lakhipur Municipal Board Chairman Mrinal Kanti Das, Dr. P.H. Choudhury, and Shri Sanjay Thakur, President of the District Tea Forum. Lakhipur Co-District Commissioner Dhruvajyoti Pathak delivered the vote of thanks, emphasizing the socio-economic benefits the project promises.
