Guwahati, Mar 24: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati have developed cutting-edge AI-powered robots designed to revolutionize border surveillance. The robots, created by Da Spatio Rhobotique Laboratory Pvt. Ltd (DSRL), a startup incubated at IIT Guwahati, have received recognition from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for their potential use in India’s defense infrastructure. The Indian Army is currently conducting field trials of the innovative surveillance system.
Arnab Kumar Barman, CEO of DSRL, explained that these autonomous robots provide significant improvements over traditional border security methods such as drones, stationary cameras, and manual patrols. The robots are designed to navigate difficult terrains, adapt to obstacles, and provide continuous real-time surveillance powered by AI-driven reconnaissance, ensuring 24/7 monitoring in all weather conditions.
“Our system is designed to ensure round-the-clock vigilance, addressing the evolving security needs of the country,” said Barman. “We are proud to contribute to India’s self-reliance in defense technology and are committed to ongoing innovation.”
The AI-powered robots are equipped with multi-sensor intelligence to detect and neutralize potential threats, making them ideal for critical infrastructure surveillance and border protection.
Keyur Sorathia, Head of the Technology Incubation Centre at IIT Guwahati, highlighted the importance of this advancement, stating, “This technology exemplifies India’s growing capabilities in defense innovation through homegrown solutions.”
The new system is expected to play a crucial role in tackling modern security threats, including rogue drones and infiltration attempts, further strengthening India’s borders with advanced, indigenous technology.
