Assam CM Pays Tribute To Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose On His 128th Birth Anniversary In Tokyo

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 128th birth anniversary at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Sarma, who is on an official visit to Japan, recalled Netaji’s significant role in India’s freedom movement and his efforts to secure Japan’s support against colonial rule.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma stated, “Japan had a special relation with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Today, I began my day in Tokyo by paying floral tributes to Netaji at the Indian Embassy. I recollected his visits to Japan and the arduous efforts he undertook to secure Japan’s support in fighting colonial rule.”

January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, is also celebrated as Parakram Diwas, a day dedicated to honoring his legacy and contributions to India’s independence. The day was officially declared as Parakram Diwas by the Indian government in 2021.

Born in Cuttack, Odisha, on January 23, 1897, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a key figure in India’s freedom struggle and the founder of the Azad Hind Fauj. His famous quotes, including “Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom!” and “Freedom is not given, it is taken,” continue to inspire the nation.

While there has been controversy surrounding his death in a plane crash in 1945, the Indian government confirmed in 2017 through an RTI that he died in the crash.

The celebrations for Parakram Diwas 2025 will include a grand three-day event from January 23 to 25, 2025, at Barabati Fort in Cuttack, Netaji’s birthplace. The event, inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will feature cultural performances, exhibitions, workshops, and various activities to honor Netaji’s enduring legacy.
