Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister To Discuss Youth Opportunities

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Akiko Ikuina, on Friday to discuss potential opportunities for Assam’s youth in Japan. The meeting focused on Japan’s plans to provide avenues for India’s skilled workforce, particularly the youth from Assam, to access opportunities in Japan’s job market.

CM Sarma shared on social media that Ikuina expressed Japan’s intent to create opportunities for young and skilled workers from India, especially from Assam. “It was a privilege to meet H.E. Ms. Akiko Ikuina, Parliamentary Vice Minister. She conveyed to me the Government of Japan’s intention to offer India, and particularly Assam’s young and skilled workforce, opportunities in Japan,” Sarma wrote.

During the meeting, CM Sarma also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a stronger India-Japan relationship, which he believes will benefit the people of both nations.

This discussion took place on the final day of Sarma’s three-day visit to Japan, which included attending the second edition of the “Advantage Assam” business summit. At the summit, Sarma highlighted Assam’s growing economy, with the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) projected to reach USD 85 billion next year and a target of USD 143 billion by 2030.

Sarma also outlined ongoing infrastructure development plans worth USD 12 billion and mentioned that Assam secured USD 4 billion in private investments in 2024. He assured investors that Assam offers a supportive policy regime and necessary infrastructure for smooth business operations.

During his visit, CM Sarma also met with business leaders, including Pravin Chaudhuri, Executive Officer of Kansai Paints, and Yusuke Kakimoto, Founder of Enrission India Capital, inviting them to explore investment and startup opportunities in Assam.
