Guwahati, Jan 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inaugurated the Museum of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) in Udaypur, Dudhnoi, Goalpara district. The Rs 1.80 crore museum aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the Rabha community. It features an extensive collection of traditional arts, artefacts, costumes, and customs that reflect the community’s rich history.
In addition to the museum, CM Sarma launched an e-library, offering public access to a wide range of books from around the world. The e-library is expected to support the socio-economic and cultural development of the Rabha community.
During the event, CM Sarma also paid tribute to King Veer Parshuram, a historic figure from the Rabha community, known for his bravery in defending Assam against invaders. Sarma criticized the suppression of Parshuram’s legacy by certain political ideologies and emphasized the government’s efforts to honor him by constructing a memorial.
The Rabha community, primarily located in Lower Assam, the Dooars, and parts of Meghalaya and West Bengal, belongs to the Tibeto-Burman group.
On the same day, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off three new trains from Guwahati Railway Station to improve regional connectivity. The services include the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, New Bongaigaon-Guwahati Passenger Train, and Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express.
Additionally, Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated a 10 KW FM transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar, aimed at expanding FM coverage in the region.
