Assam Cabinet Decides To Name Electronic City In Jagiroad After Ratan Tata

Guwahati, Mar 5: The Assam Cabinet has decided to name the upcoming Electronic City in Jagiroad as Ratan Tata Electronic City in recognition of the contributions of late industrialist Ratan Tata and the Tata Group to the state’s development.

Announcing the decision on Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the move honors Tata’s role in Assam’s progress.

The Cabinet also approved two MoUs signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit for establishing universities in Sipajhar and Tinsukia, with the related bills to be tabled in the state assembly.

Additionally, approval was granted for the formation of Sivasagar University, North Lakhimpur University, Nagaon University, Swahid Kanaklata Baruah State University, Jagannath Barooah University, Gurucharan University, and Bongaigaon University. The government will introduce amendment bills to facilitate the appointment of Vice Chancellors. It was also decided that national security clearance will be mandatory for establishing private universities in Assam.

Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, passed away on October 9 at the age of 86. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, in 2008.
