Guwahati, Mar 19: Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh on Wednesday alleged that Assam boxers, including Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, are being prevented from participating in the National Championships by suspended BFI secretary general Hemanta Kalita.
Addressing an emergency press conference in New Delhi, Singh claimed that Borgohain, who won bronze in the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics, is eager to compete in the championship starting Thursday in Greater Noida but has allegedly been asked to withdraw by Kalita.
Kalita, who holds the secretary’s position in the Assam boxing association, was found guilty of financial mismanagement in an inquiry conducted by former Delhi High Court judge Sudhir Kumar Jain. He has denied the allegations made by Singh.
