Wedding bells are ringing at filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker’s home. The creative genius behind epic Hindi films like Lagaan, Swades and Jodha Akbar is gearing up for the wedding of his elder son, Konark Gowariker. Konark is all set to tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Niyati Kanakia, daughter of renowned real estate tycoon Rasesh Babubhai Kanakia. The couple will be marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives on March 2.
A source close to the Gowariker family has revealed to Pinkvilla that the wedding will be a grand yet intimate affair, with family, close friends and a few Bollywood celebrities in attendance. While many details regarding the grand celebration are not known yet, given the filmmaker’s penchant for grandeur, one can only expect a celebration that would be nothing short of a spectacle.
Ashutosh Gowariker, who was born into a Maharashtrian family, married Sunita Gowariker, veteran actor Deb Mukherjee’s daughter from his first marriage. The couple has two sons, Konark and Vishwang.
While the filmmaker is known for crafting cinematic masterpieces, his elder son Konark has carved a niche of his own in the world of cinema. According to his LinkedIn bio, Konark has completed his studies at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. Then, his passion for cinema took him across the globe to Boston’s Emerson College, where he graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Direction and Cinematography.
Upon his return to India in 2013, Konark joined Ashutosh Gowariker Productions as a director’s assistant on Everest before joining in as director’s assistant and co-producer on Mohenjo Daro. More recently, Konark helmed AGPPL’s latest production, Toolsidas Junior, as co-producer. Moreover, he directed a bunch of online commercials.
Speaking of Ashutosh Gowariker’s work, the 61-year-old filmmaker will reportedly start working on his next historical drama after releasing the much-anticipated Kantara 2, whose premiere is scheduled for October this year. Known for his meticulous research and attention to detail, Ashutosh Gowariker is currently deep in the pre-production phase, according to a report by Bollywood Hungama.
