AR Rahman’s former wife, Saira Banu, was recently hospitalised following a medical emergency. While details about her ailment are not known, it has now been revealed that Banu had to undergo a surgery. On Thursday, Saira Banu issued a statement and shared that she is hoping for a speedy recovery. She also thanked AR Rahman for helping her during this difficult time and expressed that she is “truly grateful” for the same.
“On behalf of our client, Mrs. Saira Rahman, Vandana Shah and Associates issues the following statement regarding her current health condition. A few days ago Mrs. Saira Rahman was hospitalised due to a medical emergency, and underwent surgery. During this challenging time, her sole focus is on a speedy recovery,” the statement read, as quoted by IANS.
“She deeply appreciates the concern and support from those around her and requests prayers for her well-being from her numerous well-wishers and supporters. Mrs Saira Rahman would also like to express her heartfelt gratitude to her friends from Los Angeles, Resul Pookutty and his wife Shadia, as well as Vandana Shah and Mr. Rahman, for their unwavering support during this difficult time. She is truly grateful for their kindness and encouragement. God bless Mrs. Saira Rahman also seeks privacy during this period and expresses gratitude for the understanding from her supporters and well-wishers,” it added.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu tied the knot in 1995. They have three children together – two daughters, Khatija and Rahima, and a son named Ameen Rahman. However, the couple announced their separation in November 2024 via a joint statement.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time,” the statement read.
Later, AR Rahman also addressed the separation on X (formerly Twitter) and shared a poetic and heartfelt message: “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter (sic).”
