Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away in 2021 due to a cardiac arrest, was among the most beloved Kannada stars. He made his debut in a lead role in the 2002 romantic action film Appu which made him an overnight sensation. Directed by Puri Jaggannadh, the film was a massive hit and established the actor as a superstar. To mark the late actor’s 50th birth anniversary this year, the makers have announced the re-release of Appu on March 14 and this has left his fans excited.

Talking about its plot, the film follows the life of Appu (played by Puneeth Rajkumar), the son of head constable Venkata Swamy. One night, Appu is attacked by a rival gang and a girl named Suchitra (Suchi) protects him, pays his hospital bills and donates blood. By the time he wakes up, she has already disappeared.
Appu, curious about his saviour, discovers Suchi and falls for her. She is the daughter of Rajshekhar, the city commissioner. She rejects his confession of love. He teases her, which irritates her and causes her to complain to her father. Rajshekhar arrests and beats Appu. Nevertheless, Suchi eventually acknowledges his love. But things take a tragic turn after Suchi’s father disapproves of their relationship.
The film also featured Rakshita, Avinash and Hemashree in important roles.
Talking about Puneeth, the actor’s untimely demise shocked his fans, family, and the whole South film industry. To date, Puneeth’s followers fondly remember him for his acting abilities, kind gestures and down-to-earth nature. The late actor is survived by his wife, Ashwini Revanth and their daughters, Drithi and Vandhitha.
