Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai on Tuesday wrote to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, seeking his intervention in the issue of the arrest of fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by the Sri Lankan Navy.

In his letter, Mr. Annamalai said the 13 fishermen hailing from Karaikal in Puducherry and Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts in Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and their fishing boat was seized when they were fishing in International waters. The families of the arrested fishermen are highly distressed. They have made representations for early repatriation of the arrested fishermen, who remain the sole breadwinners of their families, Mr. Annamalai said and urged Mr. Jaishankar to take necessary arrangements to bring back the fishermen at the earliest.
