Angie Stone has died.

Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone, known for her soulful voice, the hit song Wish I Didn’t Miss You, and her early days as a member of the pioneering all-female hip-hop trio The Sequence, tragically lost her life in a car accident early Saturday. She was 63.

Around 4 am, the vehicle Angie Stone was travelling in on her way back to Atlanta from Alabama lost control, flipped over, and was then struck by a big rig, music producer Walter Millsap III told The Associated Press in an email.

Diamond, 41, confirmed the news of her mother’s death, writing on Facebook, “My mommy is gone.”

Angie Stone was set to take the stage for the halftime show at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men’s championship basketball game on Saturday. In her honour, CIAA Chaplain Pastor Jerome Barber called for a moment of silence.

CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams-Parker said they were heartbroken by the loss. “She used her incredible talent, passion, and presence to inspire and touch us with strength and hope,” Parker said.

Veteran promotor Van Silk also confirmed her passing. In a statement to AllHipHop, he said, “I received a call from her team stating that Angie

passed.”

“I thought it was from her kidney dialysis which she was going through, but it was a bad vehicle accident with 9 people in the Sprinter van coming from a show in Alabama heading back to Atlanta. Angie will be missed especially by me because we will either text or call each other in the morning,” he added.

Angie Stone made her solo debut in 1999 with Black Diamond, an album she named after her daughter, Diamond. Beyond music, Stone also explored acting, with roles in films like The Hot Chick (2002) and the Kevin Hart comedy Ride Along (2014), proving her versatility as an entertainer.
