The Air India Express is set to launch services on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector next month.
The daily service will commence from March 22, which is expected to enhance domestic traffic movements at the Tiruchi airport. As per the timing, the airline’s flight from Chennai will leave at 6.45 p.m. and reach Tiruchi at 7.45 p.m. In the return direction, the flight will leave Tiruchi at 8.15 p.m. and reach Chennai at 9.15 p.m.
The airline had been connecting the two destinations as part of its Chennai-Tiruchi-Singapore-Tiruchi-Chennai service until a few years ago.
The entry of Air India Express on the sector will provide travellers an additional option now since IndiGo is the lone airline that operates daily services in the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector at present.
The Tiruchi airport authorities had received an official communication regarding the start of the airline’s service in the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector. Airport sources said the operation of the service by the Air India Express in this sector will augment domestic traffic.
Meanwhile, Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko expressed happiness over the commencement of the Air India Express service on the Tiruchi-Chennai sector. In a statement, Mr. Durai Vaiko said he and Perambalur Lok Sabha member Arun Nehru had been consistently apprising the Civil Aviation Minister of the expectations of the travellers because of which the airline had decided to start the service fulfilling their long-pending demand.
Mr. Durai Vaiko said he would continue his efforts in seeking introduction of Air India Express flight services from Tiruchi to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and New Delhi. Introduction of more services from Tiruchi would address the requirements of travellers of Tiruchi and its surrounding districts, he added.
