The re-release trend in Bollywood continues as Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017), starring Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda, is set to return to cinemas on March 7, coinciding with Women’s Day week.

Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda’s Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is set for a March 7 re-release after gaining cult status.

The trend of Bollywood re-releases is gaining momentum, and after the unexpected success of Sanam Teri Kasam (2016) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) in their theatrical reruns, another film is making its way back to cinemas. Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017), starring Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda, is set for a re-release on March 7, coinciding with Women’s Day week.

Deepak Mukut, whose company Soham Rockstar presented Sanam Teri Kasam, is thrilled to see older films receiving newfound appreciation in theaters. Encouraged by the cult status Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana has gained over the years, he is now bringing it back to cinemas. Originally, the film had a modest box office run, earning ₹11.14 crore, but its dramatic storyline, powerful performances, and the widely popular song Thukra Ke Mera Pyaar have since turned it into a fan favorite.

A trade expert weighed in on the re-release strategy, stating, “There’s no major Hindi release on March 7, as The Diplomat has been postponed to March 14. This gives Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana a great opportunity to shine. If the audience demand is strong, the screen count could increase.”

The film follows Aarti (Kriti Kharbanda), who is about to enter an arranged marriage with Sattu (Rajkummar Rao). However, on her wedding day, she discovers that she has cleared her PCS exams. Realizing that her conservative in-laws won’t allow her to work post-marriage, she decides to flee, informing only her sister and uncle. This leaves Sattu heartbroken and humiliated. Five years later, Aarti is now a successful sub-registrar, but her past comes back to haunt her when she is accused of corruption—only to find out that the officer leading the investigation is none other than Sattu.

Directed by Ratnaa Sinha and produced by Vinod Bachchan’s Soundrya Productions, the film’s re-release was confirmed by filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who took to Instagram to share the news. As re-releases continue to strike a chord with audiences, it will be interesting to see if Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana follows the success of Sanam Teri Kasam and finds its overdue recognition on the big screen.
