Adrien Brody had a career-defining moment at the 97th Academy Awards. The 51-year-old actor won the Best Actor award for his remarkable performance in The Brutalist, marking a full-circle moment in his career. Two decades ago, he became the youngest-ever recipient of the same honor for The Pianist. While his historic win made headlines, it was his heartfelt acceptance speech that truly captured everyone’s attention.
After accepting the honor, Adrien Brody began his heartfelt speech by expressing gratitude to his partner, Georgina Chapman. However, midway through, the Oscars orchestra attempted to play him off—only for Brody to firmly stand his ground. Unwilling to be rushed, he dismissed the cue, saying, “I’m wrapping up. Please. Please. I will wrap up. Please turn the music off. I’ve done this before. It’s not my first rodeo. I will be brief.” His quick-witted response had the audience bursting into laughter.
Further, in his acceptance speech, the 51-year-old actor did not just celebrate his latest win but also chose to reflect on his decades-long career in the industry. “One thing I have gained having the privilege to come back here is to have some perspective. And no matter where you are in your career, it can all go away. What makes this night more special is the awareness of that and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love,” he said.
For him, the Oscar was not just another award or milestone in his career but a new beginning. He added, “It is a chance to begin again. And the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough that for the next 20 years of my life, I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful, important and relevant roles.”
Towards the end of his speech, Adrien shifted his focus to a cause much greater than his win, the message of inclusivity conveyed through his film The Brutalist. “I pray for a happier, healthier, and more inclusive world. If the past can teach us anything, it’s to remind us to not let the hate go unchecked,” he concluded and even thanked his partner and her children, Dash and India, whom Georgina shares with her ex-husband, Harvey Weinstein.
In the period drama The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet, Adrien plays the role of Lazlo Toth, a Jewish architect who reunites with his family in postwar America. At the Oscars 2025, he was nominated alongside Timothee Chalamet- A Complete Unknown, Colman Domingo- Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes- Conclave and Sebastian Stan- The Apprentice.
