Accused assaulted Sivaganga SC youth in ‘drunken state’, not for riding two-wheeler: Police

A “wordy quarrel in a drunken state” resulted in the attack on a 20-year-old Scheduled Caste (SC) youth by three persons on Wednesday (February 12, 2025), Sivaganga Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashish Rawat has said in a press note, adding that the victim, Ayyasamy, was not assaulted “for riding a two-wheeler.”

The SP said discreet probe revealed that Ayyasamy and the three accused — Vinoth Kumar, 21, Aatheeswaran, 25, and Vallarasu, 23, who were caste Hindus — were all in a drunken state. They were neighbours and knew each other, he said.

On seeing the trio near his house at Melappidavoor under Manamadurai SIPCOT police station limits, Ayyasamy had stopped his vehicle. He called Vinoth Kumar by his nickname, which the latter took offence to. This led to a “wordy quarrel between them,” the press release said.

Vinoth Kumar, along with Aatheeswaran and Vallarasu, then abused Ayyasamy and assaulted him with a weapon. Ayyasamy suffered injuries to his left wrist and right arm. He is undergoing treatment and is stable, the statement added.

The SP said the case would be investigated on correct lines and a charge sheet would be filed at the earliest. Efforts would be taken to ensure that the case reaches its logical conclusion, the release said.
