Abhay said that he doesn’t see marriage as a “natural phenomenon”.

Abhay Deol has often maintained that marriage is a ‘cultural thing’ rather than a necessity. However, he has now declared that he has no plans to get married. In a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Abhay said that he would rather stay single than feel miserable after marriage. He also reflected on how, in the natural world, one can have many or no lovers and not be judged for it.
Abhay said, “In nature, you love, you don’t love, no one is judging you for having more than one partner, or you can partner up and stay with that partner for life, you can end up single and finding your own self because you are able to be by yourself and know who you are.”
Abhay said that he doesn’t see marriage as a “natural phenomenon” and mentioned, “I’d rather be single and lonely than coupled up and miserable.” In the same conversation, Abhay also reflected on the relationships he has been in, both good and bad.
The actor admitted that he has previously been in an abusive relationship. “I don’t believe in violence, and I have had a lot of drama in some of my past relationships. They have turned violent as well, emotional mainly. And that’s not good, not for my partner and not good for me. Not pointing fingers at anyone, it’s a learning curve,” he said.
Abhay Deol recalled being in a relationship with a narcissist and said, “In retrospect, you see that was kind of very unemotional and scheming.” “I have had some great relationships, some really miserable ones,” he said and added, “I’ve had partners where I have had great support, I have been the wrong one.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhay Deol will soon be seen in Bun Tikki with Zeenat Aman.
