Prateik Babbar tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, actress Priya Banerjee, in an intimate ceremony on Valentine’s Day, choosing a deeply personal venue—his late mother Smita Patil’s house. However, his decision to not invite his father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his half-siblings Aarya and Juhi Babbar has sparked an emotional response from the family.
Aarya Babbar, Raj Babbar’s elder son, expressed his disappointment, reflecting on what might have led to this estrangement. “Somewhere we as a family must have failed him,” Aarya told Subhash K Jha, acknowledging that Prateik’s decision to exclude them may indicate deeper family issues. However, what hurt the most was that Prateik did not invite his own father. “Not inviting our Papa, his Papa (Raj Babbar)… how can he do this? Papa is very, very hurt. By doing this, Prateik has hurt his mother, the great Smita Patil ji, as well. If he stops to think for a moment, he would know that his mother, whom he respects and loves so much, must be very hurt. Would she want this?”
Aarya also reiterated that Prateik was never treated as a stepbrother in the Babbar family. “The doors of our hearts are always open to him. We hope he is happy in marriage and finds his niche as an actor,” he added, emphasizing that despite their differences, they still care for him.
He further shared his belief that Prateik, the son of two legendary actors, Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, has immense potential in Bollywood. “I always believed he had the talent to be another Ranbir Kapoor. But somewhere he has gone astray. We fear someone is giving him wrong advice.”
Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee’s wedding was a low-key affair, attended by close friends and family from Priya’s side. The couple, who have been together for a few years, made their first public appearance post-wedding on February 14, dressed in matching ivory outfits, symbolizing their fresh start. While the Babbar family may not have been part of the celebrations, they continue to extend their love and support, hoping for reconciliation in the future.
