Samay Raina-hosted show ‘India’s Got Latent’ has been embroiled in controversy. Guwahati Police have registered an FIR against Samay, Ranveer Allahabadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahabadia, accusing them of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions. Amid the controversy surrounding this, a throwback video of Aamir Khan sharing his views on freedom of speech and abusive language has re-surfaced on social media. In the video, the superstar said that he believes in freedom of speech, but also emphasized the responsibility that comes with it. He said that that insulting others is also a form of violence, and that he is no longer impressed by abusive language or insults. He said that he prefers humour that doesn’t hurt others.
“I completely believe in freedom of speech. No issues. But we have to understand that we all have a certain responsibility. When I heard what was being described to me, I felt it was a very violent event. Dekhiye, violence sirf physical nahi hota, ki main aapko do joote maaru. Violence verbal bhi hota hai, violence emotional bhi hota hai. Jab aap kisiko insult karte ho, tab aap violence perpetuate kar rahe ho. 25 gaaliyan deke aap sochte ho ki main impress ho jaunga. Toh gaaliyon se impress hone ki meri umar nikal chuki hai. (You see, violence is not just physical, like me hitting you with shoes. Violence can also be verbal, and emotional. When you insult someone, you are perpetuating violence. When you curse someone with 25 bad words, you think I’ll be impressed. Well, I’ve outgrown that phase),” said Aamir, in the throwback video.
He further added that he is no longer a 14-year-old who laughs at insults or abusive language. “I’m not impressed by bad language. If you want to make me laugh, do it without hurting anyone, and you’ll succeed in making me enjoy it,” he further added.
The controversy erupted after Allahabadia’s remarks on the show went viral. He allegedly asked a contestant an inappropriate question involving body parts and proposed an indecent act in exchange for Rs 2 crore. The outrage peaked when he posed a controversial question: “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?” Ranveer Allahabadia later apologized for his remarks.
