Aamir Khan shares his honest review of son Junaid Khan’s performance in debut film Maharaj

While Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan made his debut in 2024 with the film ‘Maharaj’ which released on Netflix, he is all set to make his big-screen debut soon with ‘Loveyapa’, co-starring Khushi Kapoor. Recently, during the trailer launch of ‘Loveyapa’, Aamir Khan shared his honest review of his son’s performance in ‘Maharaj’, saying that it lacked finesse in some parts, and that he wouldn’t call it a flawless performance. While Aamir really liked Junaid’s performance, he felt like it was more or less at the same level of work that he did in his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which released in 1988.

During the trailer launch, Aamir Khan said, “Junaid ki pehli film Maharaj mujhe badi pasand aayi, iska kaam bhi pasand aaya. Lekin agar main dil pe haath rakhke sach bolu toh mujhe laga uski pehli film aur meri pehli film mein hum log ka kaam ka level more or less same tha. (I really liked Junaid’s first film, Maharaj, and his work in it as well. But if I speak honestly, with my hand on my heart, I felt that his performance in the first film and mine in my first film were more or less at the same level).”

He also praised Junaid’s work in Maharaj, adding that some scenes, especially the climax were brilliant. However, he felt that some other parts seemed a bit raw.

“Mujhe bhi laga usne kai scenes bohot ache kiye. Like climax. But kahi pe mujhe laga, ki ye scene wo better kar sakta tha. Yaha pe thoda kachcha hai. Toh I could not say it was a flawless performance. As a father also I’m telling you. It was very similar. Mujhe laga maine jis level ka kaam kiya hai pehli film mein, more or less wohi kiya hai. So hopefully aage badhke wo bhi seekhega aur better ho jayega. (I also felt that he did many scenes very well, like the climax. But at certain points, I felt that he could have done those scenes better. Some parts seemed a bit raw. So, I couldn’t say it was a flawless performance. As a father, I’m telling you, it was quite similar. I felt that the level of work I did in my first film, he more or less did the same. So, hopefully, as time passes, he’ll learn and get better),” said Aamir.

‘Maharaj’, directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, stars Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari. It released in June 2024 on Netflix. Meanwhile, Junaid’s upcoming film ‘Loveyapa’ is set to hit theatres on February 7, 2025.
