Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) Nara Lokesh has expressed serious concern over the incident of a private school bus, with 35 children onboard, plunging into a pond at Mandasa mandal of Srikakulam district and causing injuries to four students on Saturday (February 15, 2025).

The Minister said private school managements should take greater precautions regarding student safety and strict regulations should be followed regarding the fitness of school buses, the experience of drivers and road safety measures.

He directed the district education officials to ensure that the injured students receive proper medical care and wanted them to implement stricter measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

The mishap occurred on Saturday when the bus, belonging to a private school, overturned and plunged into a pond. The locals rushed to the accident spot and rescued the children from the pond. The injured children were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
