The Tripura Police and its cybersecurity cell have stepped up crackdown on social media users for comments on Pahalgam terror attack and security lapses in Kashmir. The police has escalated surveillance of social media and actions against such criticism. These measures have been implemented on the direction of the Central government, a police officer said.

Sajal Chakrabaorty, a retired school teacher who was arrested for questioning security and intelligence lapses leading to the attack in Pahalgam, has been granted bail by a court. However, another retired school teacher, Prabir Chaudhury, who was detained for supporting the post, is still in jail.

Sources say that at least seven people have recently been arrested, and many others are wanted for their posts discussing the security situation in Kashmir. In a separate incident, Samid Miah, a resident of the Maharani area in south Tripura, was arrested by the R.K. Pur police in Gomati district on Monday morning for an objectionable post about the Prime Minister and the Kashmir issue.

Another person is also wanted in connection with this case.

The Tripura Police has issued a statement urging people to refrain from creating disharmony in society and threatening peace and security in the country. It has also warned of strict action against those who violate this appeal.
