
The Central government has approved the establishment of six additional Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Tripura. This decision aims to address the issue of school dropouts and provide education to indigenous community children.
Currently, there are six EMRS in the State and with the addition of these new schools, the total number will reach 12.
The EMRS is managed by the Tripura Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS), with secretary Brijesh Pandey as the Chair. The TTWREIS falls under the tribal welfare department.
State’s Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has announced the decision after returning from New Delhi where he met with senior officials of the Central government. He informed that the Central government has approved the establishment of six more EMRS in the State.
Mr. Debbarma expressed his gratitude to the Central government for this decision and stated that it will create a conducive educational environment in tribal areas. He also mentioned that the formal opening of these new schools is expected to take place within a month.
TTWREIS also operates four other residential schools in tribal areas of the State. These institutions are too funded by the Union Tribal Welfare Ministry, according to the officials.
