Zeenat Aman’s Instagram game is always on point. Often sharing interesting anecdotes on the photo-sharing application, the veteran star is back with another tale. This time around, she decided to share a behind-the-scenes story about her iconic song Chura Liya Hai Tumne from Yaadon Ki Baaraat, released in 1973. Taking a trip down memory lane, she recalled fighting with the director to wear the trendsetter “white number” in the song.
Beginning her elaborate note, Zeenat Aman shared how the song gained the stature of a “theme song” in her career. She wrote, “The clinking of the wine glasses, the sensuous lyrics, the ivory culottes and black choker… Chura Liya inadvertently became something of my theme song. Any event I’ve ever attended anywhere in the world has leaned on it for a gimmick or two.”
Moving on, Zeenat went on to explain how her director Nasir Saab (Nasir Hussain) “wanted to present her in the likes of the heroines of the 60s whose churidar-kurta look with winged eyeliner and bouffant.” Popular for her style and individuality at that time, Zeenat wanted to wear the white dress in the song. Talking about the same, she continued, “I personally felt gawky in the original outfit and was keen on wearing something more true to my own style. Fortunately my director was agreeable, and so it was that the ivory culottes and centre parting were allowed.”
Speaking of the timeless song, the actress mentioned that it has cemented a place on the list of most loved Hindi film songs of all time which shouldn’t be “too much of a surprise though.”
Chura Liya was composed by RD Burman whereas lyricist Majrooh Sultani penned the lyrics for the same. It was sung by Asha Bhosle and Mohammad Rafi.
Zeenat Aman debuted on Instagram in 2023, dropping back-to-back posts since then to offer insights on various topics. She is known for her popular films like Don, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Hare Rama Hare Krishna.
In terms of films, Zeenat Aman is set to return to screen with Faraz Arif Ansari’s Bun Tikki. In the film, she will share screen space with Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol. Besides, the veteran star is also gearing up for the release of The Royals, set to stream on Netflix soon.
