Taiwanese actor Darren Wang has found himself in legal trouble after being arrested on assault charges following an altercation with an Uber driver last April. The situation gained attention when footage of the incident surfaced online, showing Wang behaving aggressively and making inappropriate gestures after exiting the vehicle. Reports indicate that the dispute began when Wang, upon reaching his destination, realised he had left his keys inside the Tesla. Frustrated by his inability to access the car, he allegedly began banging on the window, leading to a heated argument with the driver.
The dash camera footage from the car shows Wang stepping out of the vehicle. While texting someone on his phone, he walks in front of the Tesla and makes a rude hand gesture towards the driver before walking away. Now, the footage from the incident has added more attention to the case.
The incident resurfaced during an investigation into Darren Wang’s alleged military service evasion. According to Liberty Times Net, the actor faced accusations of attempted murder after reportedly calling gang members to assault the Uber driver and the person who booked the ride. Acting on orders from the New Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office, the city’s Criminal Police Bureau and Yonghe Police Station arrested Wang and another suspect. Following interrogation at the New Taipei Prosecutor’s Office, Wang was released on bail set at NT$150,000 (approximately Rs 3 lakh).
During the investigation into Darren Wang’s alleged military service evasion using fake medical documents, authorities uncovered a larger operation. The probe led to the arrest of a network involved in helping individuals dodge military duty, reportedly led by a man named Chen.
Police detained three gang members and ten beneficiaries of the scheme, including Wang. The actor was accused of using fraudulent means to avoid military service under the Anti-Military Service Act and for making public officials record false information. He was released on bail for NT$150,000 (approximately Rs 3 lakh), while the other nine individuals were fined between NT$30,000 and NT$100,000 (approximately Rs 80,000 to Rs 2 lakh).
