BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has long been celebrated as one of K-pop’s standout performers, who has managed to captivate the audience with her impactful stage presence and charm. Whether performing alongside her group or taking the stage solo, she has never missed a chance to enthral her fans. However, a few videos of her latest performances have sparked heated online debate, featuring Jisoo’s unfiltered and raw voice.
In these clips, the background vocals and instrumental track were muted, leaving the 30-year-old idol’s singing skills on full display. The video, which has caught widespread attention, showcases Jisoo singing her recently released lead single, Earthquake, from her first-ever solo mini album Amortage. Her vocals quickly garnered attention online. While some fans praised her effort and stage presence, others were more critical and questioned her abilities as a performer even after being in the industry for nearly a decade.
One user said, “I love Jisoo. She’s a great person, but she’s been in her career for 8 years, and she sings like that? I’ve seen idols from the first generation who haven’t sung for 20 years, and they’re much more stable and dynamic than her.”
“I can’t stand her voice at all. For a seasoned artist, her voice is not good at all!!!!” another user quipped.
“Now I understand why she switched her profession to acting,” wrote a different user. Someone else shared that K-pop is all about “aesthetics” rather than talent, saying, “This is why I do not like KPOP in general. Most of them do not have a talent for singing. They all like to just serve aesthetics.”
While a section criticised Jisoo, her fans came out in support of her and defended her, sharing that her vocals were stable as she danced. “Everybody who says she is bad at singing, try singing while dancing. It’s not easy, considering that she is stable!!” said a fan.
“Who is saying her vocals are bad or not stable…go see this account for other content where idols are standing, but their vocals are so bad. For real, I think Jisoo’s voice is more stable than theirs or your favourites,” wrote another fan.
Someone else noted, “Dance, vocals, visuals, everything is perfect.”
Speaking of Jisoo’s work front, the K-pop idol released her first-ever mini album, Amortage, on February 14. She is also seen in the zombie apocalypse-based drama Newtopia. Jisoo will next be seen in The Prophet: Omniscient Reader, starring Lee Min Ho, Ahn Hyo Seop and Chae Soo Bin.
