Director Seemaa Desai has been making waves with the success of her latest slice-of-life drama, Kaushaljis Vs Kaushal. The heartwarming family entertainer, which explores the complexities of relationships when a son unexpectedly suggests his middle-aged parents separate during an argument, has tugged at the audience’s heartstrings. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast of Ashutosh Rana, Sheeba Chadha, Pavail Gulatie and Isha Talwar, the film was released on JioHotstar on February 21.
As Seemaa is basking in the appreciation of her work, she is already looking ahead to her next projects. In a recent interview, the filmmaker listed the names of newcomers with whom she is interested in collaborating for her future projects, including Rasha Thadani and Zahan Kapoor. “The list can go on and on with such an exciting lot we have witnessed lately. Some names off the top of my head are Agastya Nanda, Rasha Thadani, Vedang Raina, and Zahan who all look very promising,” Seemaa told Pinkvilla.
Beyond industry freshers, the filmmaker also expressed that she would love to work with Ananya Panday and Alaya F, noting that they are “not exactly fresh.” However, she loves their on-screen “energy and potential.” She further lauded the versatility and screen presence of Kiara Advani, Mrunal Thakur and Sanya Malhotra, who all have already carved a niche in the industry. Seemaa praised their ability to leave a lasting impact with every role, saying, “I find Kiara Advani to be gorgeous and so versatile, and the same goes for Mrunal Thakur and Sanya Malhotra. All of them have made such an amazing impact in their respective projects.”
Speaking about her latest release, she expressed her happiness about working with the industry veterans as well as new talents in Kaushaljis Vs Kaushal. Seemaa credited Isha Talwar for bringing “freshness to the film,” who has previously worked in Hindi and the regional industry. She has done web shows like Mirzapur and Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo and has starred in films, including Article 15 and Bangalore Days, among others.
The filmmaker also heaped praises on Pavail, saying, “Pavail, who was relatively fresh after Thappad in 2022, is such a nuanced performer that he made the character Yug Kaushal extremely believable and relatable.” She added that it was a “joy to work with” both of them.
Seemaa is now working on her upcoming project, tentatively titled Cheers. Written by Ritesh Shah, it will star Amol Parashar and Shruti Sharma.
