Imran Khan opens up on image makeover by Karan Johar.
Actor Imran Khan talked about how filmmaker Karan Johar changed his image before I Hate Luv Storys was released. Directed by Punit Malhotra, the film starred Imran with Sonam Kapoor. Imran recalled seeing an old photoshoot where Karan wanted him to look effortlessly sexy for the film, where he played a flirt. Imran eventually left the industry to focus on his mental health.
Opening up on Karan Johar’s plan, Imran Khan, during the Moments of Silence podcast, said, “Karan kind of decided to sex-up my image. I generally do not gain much weight but I was minding my diet and exercising and all of that for the film particularly. Karan said we are going to cash in on this. We did a lot of… kind of topless shoots.”
In a 2010 interview with IANS about I Hate Luv Storys, Imran Khan discussed his look for the film. He mentioned that Karan Johar was specific about how he should appear, wanting him to have a sexy edge since he played a womaniser. He had said, “Karan is very particular about the look. The character I play is a kind of womaniser so he wanted to have that sexy edge. He said at any point the clothes should fit me in a certain way and I should have the look of a guy who is effortlessly sexy.”
During the same chat, Imran Khan was asked how he met his girlfriend Lekha Washington. He replied, “We were all in a group of friends. Her then-partner actually was an old, old school friend of mine. So we were all kind of within the same group of friends.” While speaking about living with his ladylove, Imran shared that while he is a minimalist and owns very few objects, Lekha likes to keep things she finds amazing. “For the initial couple years of our relationship, she was still in her place and I was in mine. This past year, as we’ve moved into the same space, has been about finding that balance of me saying we have too many things, and she’s like ‘but I found this amazing thing’.”
On the professional front, Imran Khan is rumoured to be making his acting comeback after ten years in a Netflix film directed by Danish Aslam.
