At the 97th Academy Awards, Demi Moore showed grace despite not winning the Best Actress award. She was nominated for her standout performance in The Substance and she was considered a strong contender. When the moment arrived, Emma Stone, last year’s winner, revealed that the award went to Mikey Madison. The 25-year-old actress, known for her breakout role in Anora, was seen as Demi’s biggest rival for the honour. Despite the loss, Demi stayed calm and didn’t shy away from showing love to the young actress. As Mikey appeared on the stage to accept her Oscar, the two shared a sweet moment, showing mutual respect and kindness.

Mikey said, “I want to recognise the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I am honoured to be recognised amongst them.” During the moment, the camera captured Demi looking emotional, yet genuinely happy for Mikey, as she took the award. Although the veteran star didn’t take home the award, she looked proud of her fellow actress. Throughout the past year, Demi and Mikey had shown great support for each other during the awards season.

Demi Moore started the award season by winning at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. However, Mikey Madison took home BAFTAs and Film Independent Spirit Awards. Demi then made the race even more exciting by winning the Screen Actors Guild Award. Another strong competitor was Fernanda Torres, who surprised many with a Golden Globe win and was part of I’m Still Here, which won Best International Feature Film. Although The Substance didn’t win Best Actress, the movie still won Best Makeup and Hairstyling, beating Wicked, Nosferatu, Emilia Perez and A Different Man.

Anora had an incredible yet unexpected night at the Oscars, as the movie took home five major awards, including Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress, Best Director and the most prestigious award of the evening, Best Picture.

The Brutalist had a strong night as well, as it just finished behind Anora. The period drama earned three Oscars, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.
