The 97th Academy Awards faced backlash for snubbing Gossip Girl actor Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Todd, Shannen Doherty, and Olivia Hussey during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment. X users expressed their displeasure and openly called it out for omitting the honorary mentions of the awards night.
“Michelle Trachtenberg got snub in the in memorial. You f**ked up, academy!”, wrote an X user. Another user posted, “The Oscars not honoring Michelle Trachtenberg in the memoriam is absolutely disgusting.”
Another X post read, “Huge snub not including olivia hussey in the memoriam #oscars.” A fourth user posted, ““NO michelle trachtenberg??? NO Shannen Doherty ??? NO Tony Todd???? I’m SICK #Oscars2025.”
A user on Reddit expressed disappointment over Tony Todd’s exclusion from the Oscars honour. A thread on the platform read, “Somehow, I’m really not surprised. Still, it shows how this awards ceremony continues to disrespect horror. Tony deserved to have his name up there with all the others. Some people will say “who cares about the Oscars?”, but I would say the recognition was well earned over a great career.”
For the unversed, Michelle Trachtenberg was found dead at her New York house on February 26. She was 39. Fans were enraged to see her name missing from the ‘In Memorium’ section. 69-year-old Tony Todd, famously known for The Candyman and other films, died in November 2024. He started in over 100 films and TV shows in his career. Fans were quick to point how his name was missing from the memorial montage at BAFTA Awards this year.
Olivia Hussey died in December at the age of 73 after her long-standing battle with breast cancer. Shannen Doherty, 53, also died of breast cancer in July 2024.
