Halsey is pushing boundaries with her new music video, Safeword. Directed by Lana Jay Lackey, the video features Halsey in striking latex outfits. The video showcases the singer in striking latex ensembles, engaging in visually intense moments—including using someone as furniture, being restrained and spanked, and even hanging upside down with only tape covering her chest.

In another scene, she leads a man dressed as a latex-covered dog. The shifting power dynamics throughout the video amplify its edgy and NSFW nature. Safeword follows the release of Halsey’s album The Great Impersonator in October, with the singer gearing up for a multi-city tour later this year.

In the song, Halsey shouts, “Yes, sir, no, sir, on all fours/Are you ready to get what you’ve been waiting for?/I’m not a criminal, I’m just a wild child/I’m not a bad girl, I just like it wild style/I’m tough, I’m mean, I’m rough/Just say the safe word when you’ve had enough. You’re going down, yeah, I’m taking you down/We’re going for a ride, I’m the queen of this town/I got a bad reputation from the fucking around/I got a standing ovation from the other on the playground.”

Safeword is another unique and energetic song from Halsey, in which she flaunted her different style. In her previous album, The Great Impersonator, she honoured several legendary musicians, such as Dolly Parton, PJ Harvey, David Bowie, Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen, Kate Bush, Cher and Britney Spears, among others.

During her appearance on The Tonight Show, Halsey spoke about her upcoming For My Last Trick tour said, “I really like putting on a big show. I think people are usually pretty surprised when they come to see me in concert, especially if they only know me for the songs on the radio. The show can be quite, like, aggressive. Like, I’m like a little demon. I get out there and have to exorcise some stuff.”

The singer shared that she really misses going on tours and the upcoming concert will be the first since the Love and Power tour in 2022. She admitted that performing feels natural and after spending eight years constantly touring, it was tough to stay home. However, due to the pandemic, pregnancy and health issues, she had to take a break. Now, after a long hiatus, she is eager to return to the stage and perform again.

Halsey’s For My Last Trick tour will start in May and continue until July.
