The job fair organised by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood and the Shivamogga district administration in the city on Monday received a good response.
Hundreds of unemployed youths, students, and diploma holders participated in the fair. The organisers invited over 40 companies from various sectors, including information technology, banking, insurance, health, hospitality, and service to take part in the event.
The representatives of the companies received applications from candidates and conducted interviews. The youths carried documents of their educational qualifications to the event, enquiring about job opportunities.
Minister for School Education Madhu Bagareppa inaugurated the fair. The Minister said he was happy that the event received a good response. Many people from the neighbouring Chikkamagaluru district also attended the fair, he said.
The Minister stated that the government would contemplate providing free bus facilities for students to take part in job fairs to be held in district centres in the future.
“We will make arrangements for male participants who have registered with the job fair to travel free, just like female passengers who can travel free of cost under the Stree Shakti scheme,” he said.
Stressing the need for teaching skills, the Minister said that the School Education Department would launch a “Skills at School” programme from the next academic year for students of high school and pre-university courses. They would be trained in various skills so that they become employable after their studies.
Mr. Madhu Bangarappa said the guarantee schemes of the Congress government had been beneficial to the people. The Yuvanidhi scheme, which helps unemployed graduates with financial assistance, has been successfully implemented. Under the scheme, 5,544 people were being benefitted in the district, and a total assistance of ₹11 crore had been disbursed to them.
MLA for Shivamogga S.N. Channabasappa, MLC Balkhees Banu, Congress leaders, and senior officers were present on the occasion.
