Three women were killed in an explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit at Vedarampatty near Kambainallur on Monday (February 24, 2025).
The victims V. Thirumala, 36, T. Thirumanju, 35, and M. Sengbagam, 35, all residents of Kambainallur, were working inside the unit at the time of the mishap.
The fireworks unit, run by a person named Vijaykumar, was a hollow block structure. It was flattened in the late Monday afternoon explosion, which killed all three women on the spot.
“It is an LE-1 licenced unit and was operating legally. A forensics team is investigating the accident site. The exact cause of the fire will only be known after the forensics report,” Collector R. Satheesh told The Hindu.
According to sources, Revenue Divisional Officers, in the meantime, will carry out inspections in all the units functioning in the district.
