After two years of their marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck decided to call it quits last summer. Following months of legal battle, the divorce was finalised on Friday, February 21. Amid the highly publicised proceedings, one person who may have been affected the most is none other than the actor’s eldest daughter Violet Affleck, whom he co-parents with his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner.
Violet reportedly maintained a surprisingly close relationship with JLo even after her father decided to call it quits last year. She spent time with the singer in the Hamptons and even met with the singer-actor’s mother at Yale. The 19-year-old was really close to Jennifer Lopez.
According to insiders, Violet allegedly felt “used.”
“Violet felt like she was used as a pawn, so to speak, during her dad’s split from JLo,” said a source to Daily Mail. While her mother, Jennifer, supported her daughter’s bond with the 55-year-old star, believing in giving her space to make her own decisions, she too found their bond quite puzzling.
“Jen supported her daughter getting close to the singer because she always puts her children first. But as the divorce loomed, the fact that Violet was hanging out with JLo and wearing her clothes was odd to the family. So, too, was Lynda Lopez visiting Violet at college.” added the insider.
However, Violet deliberately severed all ties with JLo once she realised the emotional toll the divorce had on her father. “Over time, Violet started to see how upset her father was that their split was at the centre of everything. Ben never said a word about J Lo,” the insider said. The source further described Violet as a “highly intelligent” and “daddy’s girl” who would always be by Ben’s side, revealing that this is the reason why the teen is not seen with JLo anymore.
Ben and Jennifer Lopez rekindled their romance in 2021, nearly two decades after they called off their engagement. The two got married in 2022, only to part ways in two years. According to TMZ, their divorce settlement was completed on January 6 and received the judge’s approval on February 21, 2025. Following the finalisation of their divorce, JLo officially dropped “Affleck” from her name.
