Kate Hudson is known for her iconic role in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, where she plays a writer at a women’s magazine, but she almost played a similar iconic character. Hudson was reportedly offered the role that Anne Hathaway played in The Devil Wears Prada, but she turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Recently, she admitted that passing the opportunity was a mistake and she regrets not clearing her schedule to appear alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. She called it a “bad call,” and even though Hudson felt bad after seeing the film, she believes everything happens for a reason and understands that sometimes things don’t align the way you hope.

While appearing on Capital FM, Kate said, “That was a bad call. It was like a timing thing and it was one of the things, where it’s like, I just couldn’t do it and I should have like, made it happen. And I didn’t. That was one role, when I saw it, I was like, ugh. But again, everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason for that. That was a real, like, ‘Oh I should have made that work.’ It’s funny, movies, it’s like, waves of things that are happening and then people shooting at different times. It’s not like, you don’t do them because you don’t want to do them. It’s like, ‘Oh you’re doing something else,’ and it just sucked.”

The Devil Wears Prada, directed by David Frankel, is based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel. The story follows Andy, an aspiring journalist who moves to New York City and lands a job as an assistant for Miranda Priestly, a powerful fashion magazine editor played by Meryl Streep. Even though Kate Hudson didn’t appear in the film, she has been part of several popular movies, including The Skeleton Key, You, Me and Dupree, Fool’s Gold, My Best Friend’s Girl and Bride Wars.

According to Puck, a sequel of The Devil Wears Prada is in the early stages of development with Disney. The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is working on the script, along with the producer Wendy Finerma. However, there is no confirmation yet about the plot or whether Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci and Anne Hathaway will return. It is also unclear if the movie will introduce an entirely new cast.
