Stalin, Udhayanidhi hail Tamil on International Day for Mother Tongue

On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day on Friday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and his deputy Udhayanidhi Stalin hailed the greatness and the antiquity of the Tamil language.

Underlining the greatness of Tamil, Mr. Stalin said Tamil could stand on its own without the aid of other languages and it reflected the rich lives of the Tamils during the ancient times. In a social media post, he also referred to the steps taken by his government to unravel the various aspects history for which references were found in the literature. He wished that the classical language spread all over the globe.

“The mother language was merely a tool for communication but an identity, culture and the basis of the history of a community,” Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said on social media. The Deputy CM, who has been articualte about TN’s position against three-language policy, further contended: “This is the basis for our sentiment to protect Tamil and also for the fascist conspiracy to impose Hindi.” Recalling reported attempts to destabilise Tamil during the past century, he added: “Tamil Nadu has always defeated them. Will continue to do so.”

Quoting from the words of late Tamil poet Bharathidasan about how unity among Tamils kept their rivals away, the Deputy CM said: “Let us remain united to protect Tamil”.
