Kaveri Kapur recently made her acting debut with Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story. Amid the film’s mixed reviews, she opened up about her parents, celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s divorce. In a rare revelation, Kaveri mentioned that though she was happy when they parted ways, it took a toll on her mental health while growing up.

“It wasn’t the separation that affected me as much as the relationship itself. I was happy when they got divorced. But yes, it took a toll, especially because it was so public. You get exposed to things a child wouldn’t normally have to deal with. I have struggled with my mental health as an adult because of it,” Kaveri told The Times of India.

She added that she probably hasn’t found her ground yet. “I still struggle with my mental health—it’s a process. I have OCD and I’m still healing. But I’m happy and grateful, and I know it takes time,” added Kaveri.

Shekhar Kapur married Suchitra Krishnamoorthi in 1999 when she was just 22. The two welcomed Kaveri in 2001. However, the couple parted ways in 2007 i.e. after 12 years of marriage.

Kaveri, in the same interview, revealed who she is closer to, her mother or father. The debutante said, “Both, but in different ways. My dad is like my best friend—we talk about relationships and philosophy. My mom and I have a classic mother-daughter dynamic—she’s my fierce protector and takes care of me. I turn to either one depending on the situation.”

Meanwhile, Shekhar Kapur recently received the Padma Bhushan award. He is a celebrated filmmaker, known for directing films like Masoom, Bandit Queen, Mr India, and a few international projects. He is currently working on the sequel of Masoom, which also stars Kaveri in a key role.
