Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan
As one of the biggest stars in the country, Shah Rukh Khan has worked with some of the biggest directors in Bollywood. However, he has yet to star in a film directed by Sooraj Barjatya. The director was recently asked if he was ever in talks with Shah Rukh Khan for a film. Sooraj revealed to Bollywood Bubble that Shah Rukh was the first choice for Saif Ali Khan’s role in Hum Saath Saath Hain.
Sooraj Barjatya said, “Many years ago, for Hum Saath Saath Hain… We were talking about Saif’s role. But this was a long time ago.” Sooraj Barjatya’s 1999 film, Hum Saath Saath Hain, is among his most popular works and has reached cult status today. The film stars Salman Khan and Sonali Bendre as the leads along with Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Mohnish Bahl and Tabu.
Not just Shah Rukh Khan, but even Madhuri Dixit could have been a part of the film. In a chat with Radio Nasha, Sooraj revealed that Madhuri Dixit wanted to be a part of the film and was ready to play Salman Khan’s sister-in-law. However, the filmmaker was not on board with this idea as they had previously romanced in Hum Aapke Hain Koun.
Sooraj Barjatya said, “I told her ‘Madhuri, I am making a male-dominated picture and if I cast you opposite Salman, then it is a very small role for you and if I cast you opposite Mohnish Bahl, then you will be playing bhabhi to Salman Khan.” “She is such a lovely lady, she said ‘It doesn’t matter, it is a joy to work together.’ But then I said I will not be comfortable,” he recalled.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his next film, King. The Bollywood superstar confirmed that the film will be directed by Siddharth Anand, who previously also helmed SRK’s Pathaan. King Khan also assured everyone that the upcoming movie would be entertaining and that everyone would love watching it in theatres.
