Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti: Traffic congestion at Hyderabad’s Puranapul due to processions

Heavy traffic congestion was reported at Puranapul and surrounding areas on Wednesday (February 19, 2025) afternoon as multiple processions were held across the South and South-East zones of Hyderabad to mark Shivaji Jayanti.

An official from the Hyderabad Traffic Police said that the congestion was due to a temporary halt of 10 – 15 minutes for traffic diversion at various points along the procession routes.

“There are 15 processions scheduled across the South and South-East zones. We issue advisories for jams or halts exceeding 30 minutes, but the diversions for these processions are brief and planned accordingly,” the official said.

Despite temporary slowdowns, traffic movement is expected to return to normal by 6 p.m.. Authorities have urged commuters to take alternate routes where possible and remain patient as the processions conclude.
